ABOUT US

Aichi Traditional Culture Institution was established by the people who are concerned with tea ceremony in September, 2015. Our goal is to rebuild the country house with a tea ceremony room where Nyoshunan Morikawa (real name: Kanichirou Morikawa, 1887-1980) lived. We welcome your donation to rebuild the country house.

INAKYA

The original country house was located in Ichinomiya-city in the beginning of 17th century. In 1927, Nyoshunan Morikawa took down the house and moved it to Chikusa-ward, Nagoya-city. He had the house renovated beautifully. It took a long time to set up not only a tea ceremony room but also a gate and a garden. At that time, it was a kind of trend for tea ceremony teachers to buy an old country house and rebuild it in a new location. They used the house as their second house, and, of course, there was a beautiful tea ceremony room in it. Nyoshunan’s country house was praised by famous tea ceremony teachers such as Donon Masuda, Souan Takahashi and so on. It is one of the most precious country houses in Japanese history.

NYOSYUNAN

Nyoshunan Morikawa (1887-1980) was called a genius in Chubu area. He enjoyed tea ceremony throughout his life. Nyoshunan was born into a rich family in Ichinomiya-city. When he was 16 years old, he saw a special tea bowl named “Shigure,” which had been created by a famous tea bowl creator, Kouetsu. He really wanted the tea bowl, so he asked his grandfather to buy it. After three years, he got a tea bowl, “Otogoze,” which had been created by Kouetsu as well. That is to say, Nyoshunan got two precious tea bowls in his teens. After that, when “Satake-bon Picture Book with 36 Poems” (a picture book with 36 poems created by famous poets) was cut into 36 pieces, he was very lucky to get the first piece with the poem written by Kakinomoto Hitomaro. Also, Nyoshunan found “Murasaki-shikibu Picture Diary,” a very valuable book in Japanese history.
